Rotary Adventure in Tourism
Our local Rotary club has been accepted to send a student to this adventure! It takes place from Sunday, April 07 to Friday, April 12, in Kelowna.
Criteria:
- students should not be smokers
- students should be aware of any food or animal allergies and fully disclose this info
- students should disclose any medication or health concerns
- students should be capable of walking a trail for 1 hour
- students should be between 16 and 18 and be in good standing in the community and their school
- students should be academically sound and be able to continue being successful in their studies
- students should demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills
If you are interested in this opportunity, please answer the following questions and drop off to Mrs. Wallach by March 13th.

Grades 6-12 Technology ScholarshipThe Technology Scholarship recognizes outstanding achievement in technology-based learning. The BCSSA and Apple Canada invite BC public school students in grades 6-12 to design a website for a school or community group. It can be the school basketball team, the school band or a local not-for-profit organization. The winners will receive a scholarship prize of an Apple iPad . There are seven iPad awards, one in each of the grade-level entry categories: Grade 6, Grade 7, Grade 8, Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12.

Grade 12 Essay Scholarship
The Grade 12 Essay Scholarship provides financial assistance to BC public school students planning to pursue a teaching career. One scholarship winner will be chosen among finalists from each of the BCSSA's six regional chapters by a committee of educators. The winner will receive $1000, and the five finalists will receive $200 each. In addition to submitting an essay (1000 words maximum), applicants must provide a transcript of grades and two letters of reference attesting to school/community leadership.
The topic for the 2013 Grade 12 Essay Scholarship is "Technology as learning tool - How might schools utilize technology effectively to enhance student learning?"

Beijing Internation Student Summer Camp
Our Canadian students have another AMAZING opportunity to visit China for the Beijing International Student Summer Camp! (July 12th – 21st, 2013). There are three spots reserved for RSS students. Click here for the application form.
50 students from across BC will be selected to participate in this incredible intercultural experience, which brings together over 700 students from something like 28 different countries to learn more about China and get to know each other. It is absolutely Awesome! There are Chinese language classes and cultural activities, a kung-fu show, various sightseeing tours, shopping in the Silk Market, a chance to climb the Great Wall, plus tons of cool young people from all over the world. Best of all, everything in China is paid for by the hosting organization (food, accommodation, language teachers, tour guides, admission fees, etc.). The cost for students (age 14 – 18) will be approx. $2000 or less, which covers the airfare, medical insurance, and a $200 administration fee.
