Cook?
We are looking for a motivated individual who is interested in a future culinary career. This person will be working along side our chef, helping with prep, learning to make basic dishes, and helping with dishwashing/clean-up. This position is for approx 3-4 evenings a week (Thursday-Sunday) and the approx. hours would be 5-9pm, we are offering a competitive wage! Like Theatre?
For those of you who like the theatre, there may be opportunities for you to learn and practice the fine art of ushering. The Revelstoke Community Theatre is seeking young usher volunteers. See Ms Milmine for more info.
Volunteer for Nordic Midget Championships
The Teck Midget Championships will be held in Revelstoke on March 2/3, 2013 and hosted by the Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club (RNSC). This is a popular children’s event that has been hosted by various cross country ski clubs in BC for approximately 15 years.
The RNSC are drawing heavily upon the help and resources of its membership to organize and run a successful event (75 volunteers per day). The tasks are varied from assisting with the bus shuttle service, awards/event banquet, parking lot attendant, concession, race office, as well as an array of roles assisting in officiating. Students will be well looked after by those responsible for key positions in the event which will include an orientation. Voluntary help may be needed one day or both depending on the task and the student’s availability. A shuttle service will be run from town to the Mt. McPherson trails throughout the weekend which would facilitate students to get to & from.
All event volunteers are covered for 3rd party liability insurance under the provincial sporting body Cross Country BC. The coordinator for event volunteers is Penny Page-Brittin brittins@telus.net. “expressions of interested” accepted anytime. Deadline preferably by first week of February when the new semester begins.

Science Challenge
To help celebrate Canada’s 50 years in space and Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield’s upcoming mission, students across Canada are invited to participate in the Canadian Space Agency’s Canadian Science Challenge to design a science experiment at home or at school for the chance to have their experiment conducted in space by Chris himself. To make it even more exciting, the experiment must only use items that are available on the International Space Station. Please click here to see the list.
Until December 31st, 2012, students can submit experiment designs for review by a panel of scientists. The top ten submissions will be featured on the Canadian Space Agency website. The winner will be determined by public voting and will be announced in February. Assist in tourism marketing, website maintenance, Social Media Marketing, assiting staff with visitor assistance, planning and promotig local community initiatives and events, general office administration.
Skills Required: Experience or interest in tourism marketing and visitor experiences, Internet savvy in website content management, social media, Good communication skills, second language is a definite asset, computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe.
Wage: $10/50-$15.00/hour depending on education and expereience.
When: Immediately to March 31st. Maximum 420 hours. Hours between 8:30 AMto 5:00 PM. HOurs to be determined based on availablility.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a fire fighter? Well you may have an opportunity. The Revelstoke Fire Department is initiating a pilot project where students in Grades 11 and 12 will have the opportunity to participate in REAL fire-fighting training! Painting Competition
This painting competition is open to students up to 14 years old.
The United Nations Environment Programme Regional Office for North America (UNEP RONA) and its partner Bayer Corporation invite students to pick up their crayons, colored pencils and paint brushes and create original artworks for the 22nd annual International Children's Painting Competition (ICPC) on the environment.
This year’s theme is: "Water: Where Does It Come From?"
This competition provides you the opportunity to have your artwork displayed in a public exhibition, to win prizes and to become the North American environmental ambassador at the United Nations' global TUNZA youth conference next year.
The ICPC invites elementary and middle school students aged six to 14 from the United States and Canada to explore their views on water as the source for all life. As they create their pictures, students should consider the responsibility we all share to ensure a healthy, secure and sustainable water supply for our communities, environment and economy. After all, without water there would be no life on Earth – plant, animal or human.
The free-style artwork must be submitted on letter or legal-size paper and can be created using crayons, colored pencils, watercolors, oils, etc. Individual students may submit more than one artwork. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2013. Submissions must be received by that date.

Like to ski?
Take Ski Course, gain high school credits, and gain preferred hiring for job as a ski instructor!
Here's how:
1. Take (and pass) the CSIA Level 1 course. This course is open to competent parallel skiers over 15.
2. Bring in your certification for 2 high school credits.
3. Job Shadow with full-time instructors at RMR.
4. Next year, you will have preferred hiring privileges based on your performance over the course of the Job-Shadow program. This could be a great job.
5. Take part in FREE ongoing training towards higher level certification.
The Catches are:
-there is only room for 5 students.
-the course is over Christmas holidays
-they prefer younger students (15-16) who can benefit from the preferred hiring next season.
-the course costs $258.00 (plus HST). This is a 30% discount from the $388 normally charged to the public.

Truck and Transport Mechanic (Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic) Apprenticeship Opportunity
Inland Kenworth, Peterbilt Pacific Inc, and Cullen Diesel Power Ltd, in partnership with Thompson Rivers University announce an Accelerated Learning Apprenticeship program for Truck and Transport Mechanic (Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic)
The program is an alternative model of apprenticeship training that includes:
-being sponsored by industry and registered with the Industry Training Authority as an apprentice
-spending approximately 17 months as an unpaid learner while completing all of your in--school technical training, specialized OEM training, industry training and workplace practicums
-participating in formative performance evaluations
-receiving a formal offer of full time apprentice employment once you have successfully -completed the 17 months in-school technical training
-working under supervision as a paid apprentice to complete 6,000 hours of on-the-job work-based practical training, and
-not having to return to school during your work-based training.
Once you have successfully completed your formative exams, Red Seal exam and 6000 work-based hours, you will receive your BC Certificate of Qualification with a Red Seal endorsement as a qualified Truck and Transport Mechanic (Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic)

Want to Live in Another Country for a Year?
The Revelstoke rotary Club is inviting Revelstoke students ages 15-18 to apply to become a Rotary Exchange Student and live in another country for a year. One student from the Revelstoke area will be selected for next year's exchange. The student accepted will have the opportunity to study for a year in a Senior Secondary School in Europe, South America, Mexico, Thailand, India, Japan, or the Philippines.

BC Youth Parliament
Randy Kamp invites youth to join BC Youth Parliament
The British Columbia Youth Parliament’s 84th Parliament will be held in Victoria at the Provincial Legislative Chambers from December 27 to 31, 2012. The Youth Parliament is a province-wide non-partisan organization for young people ages 16 to 21. It teaches citizenship skills through participation in the December parliamentary session and in community service activities throughout the year. Youth Parliament is a one year commitment.
Application forms are available from the British Columbia Youth Parliament website. All application forms must be received by October 23, 2012. Selected applicants will be notified in early November. More information is available at www.bcyp.org.
